Sometimes choosing a home fragrance is simply about finding a scent you love.
But when I started creating Rowin Scents, I approached each blend a little differently.
Rather than starting with:
What should this candle smell like?
I started with:
What do I need today?
Something for the end of a busy day. A fresh scent while I’m working. Something brighter. Something softer. Or simply a scent that marks a change of pace.
That thinking became the seven essential-oil blends behind the original Rowin Scents candle collection.
Each one is made with 100% essential oils, combining different citrus, floral, herbal and woody notes to create its own distinctive scent.
Here’s what’s inside each one — and why I chose those oils.
Deep Sleep
Lavender • Sweet Marjoram • Vetiver
Lavender is the most recognisable note in Deep Sleep, bringing its familiar soft, floral aroma.
Sweet marjoram adds a warmer herbal note, while vetiver provides the deep, earthy base that stops the blend from becoming overly floral.
Together, they create a warm, herbal and earthy scent that I associate with slower evenings and winding down at the end of the day.
Scent profile: Floral • Herbal • Earthy

Focus
Peppermint • Lime • Bergamot
Focus is much fresher.
Peppermint gives the blend its crisp character, lime adds a bright citrus note and bergamot rounds everything out with a softer citrus aroma.
I wanted this blend to smell clean and fresh rather than sweet — the kind of scent I enjoy having around me when I’m working, planning or concentrating on one thing at a time.
Scent profile: Fresh • Minty • Citrus

Relaxing
Lavender • Bergamot • Ylang Ylang
Relaxing starts with lavender too, but it smells very different from Deep Sleep.
Bergamot brings a lighter citrus note while ylang ylang adds a richer, slightly exotic floral character.
The result is softer and more floral, without the deep earthiness that vetiver gives Deep Sleep.
Scent profile: Soft • Floral • Citrus

Grounding
Cedarwood • Bergamot • Ylang Ylang
Cedarwood is the foundation of Grounding.
It gives the blend its warm, woody character. Bergamot brings freshness, while ylang ylang softens the woodiness with a floral note.
I wanted something that felt warm and earthy without becoming too heavy.
Scent profile: Woody • Warm • Soft floral

Reset
Sweet Orange • Neroli • Cedarwood
Reset opens with bright sweet orange.
Neroli adds a delicate floral-citrus note, while cedarwood brings warmth and depth underneath.
It’s bright without being purely citrus and woody without feeling heavy.
For me, it’s the scent of drawing a line under one part of the day and starting again.
Scent profile: Citrus • Floral • Woody

Uplifting
Sweet Orange • Neroli • Jasmine
Uplifting shares sweet orange and neroli with Reset, but the addition of jasmine changes the character completely.
Sweet orange provides the juicy citrus opening, neroli bridges citrus and floral notes, and jasmine creates a softer floral finish.
The result is bright and cheerful without becoming overly sweet.
Scent profile: Bright citrus • Floral • Soft

Hormone Balance
Rose Geranium • Lemon • Clary Sage
Hormone Balance is the most floral-herbal blend in the collection.
Rose geranium provides the main floral character, lemon brings freshness and clary sage adds a deeper herbal note.
Together, they create a more complex floral scent — fresh rather than powdery and balanced by the herbal depth of clary sage.
Scent profile: Floral • Fresh • Herbal

Why I chose essential oils
One of the things I love most about working with essential oils is how differently they behave when they’re blended.
Lavender on its own is immediately recognisable. Add vetiver and sweet marjoram and it becomes something warmer and earthier.
Sweet orange and neroli feel bright and floral. Add cedarwood and the blend becomes deeper; add jasmine instead and it becomes softer and more floral.
That’s the part of creating fragrance I’ve become fascinated by — finding the balance between the individual oils so that no single note overwhelms everything else.
Rowin Scents isn’t about making the strongest fragrance possible.
It’s about creating scents that can become part of ordinary moments at home.
What do you need today?
That’s still the question behind the original collection.
You might prefer something fresh and citrusy, deep and woody, soft and floral or warm and herbal.
Sometimes choosing a scent isn’t about what is supposedly “best”.
It’s simply about what smells right to you and what fits the moment you’re creating.
